Asha Thomas’ workshops and classes draw from core components of American modern dance techniques, using angles and spirals as a starting point, and extend them into an exploratory space where dancers move into, and just as importantly, out of conventional timings and structures. The work invites dancers to find their own rhythms and dynamics, allowing for more individual and personal expressions of movement. Her workshops consider how modern dance fundamentals can continue to inform dancers within a rapidly evolving dance landscape, and how these principles can spill over into contemporary and popular dance aesthetics.
